Saxon Weald has spent around £400,000 on a new telecare system from Tunstall Healthcare at its Downlands Court ‘extra care’ retirement housing in West Sussex. Tunstall’s Communicall Connect system now allows staff to communicate with residents around the clock through speech modules installed in both individual flats and communal areas.
A range of sensors increase security throughout the properties, with fob-operated door entry sensors allowing easy and secure access to staff and residents with limited dexterity. Tunstall also provided doorframe cameras which stream live images to residents’ television screens, allowing those with visual impairments to see large-scale images of their visitor.
Additional telecare sensors were installed to reduce possible risks including heat and smoke detectors, as well as door alerts on fire exits to inform carers if a door is opened unnecessarily.
