Having completed the implementation of a ‘telepresence’ video-conferencing system from Tandberg at NPS Group, a national property services company majority owned by Norfolk County Council, Intrinsic Technology has reported that the service had achieved a return on investment within the first nine months of its operation.
The adoption of the telepresence system as a viable alternative to physical meetings without compromising communication follows NPS’s substantial growth over the last few years. This had made internal communications increasingly complicated as well as resulting in higher travel and hotel costs to and from meetings. Intrinsic Technology’s engineers configured NPS’s existing systems and installed a Tandberg telepresence system across 23 NPS sites.
NPS now makes substantial annual savings on travel and hotel bills as well as becoming more efficient due to less time wasted on travel between sites. Productivity across the entire organisation has also increased as more meetings can be held as and when needed.
Shaun Morgan, northern data centre manager, NPS Group, said “Reducing our travel and hotel bills is ideal not only from a financial point of view, but also in terms of our commitment to the environment. The benefits have been even wider than we originally envisaged; people are having meetings that they wouldn’t otherwise have had, and are holding ‘virtual coffee mornings’ and team meetings via the video conferencing system.”
