Teesdale Housing Association, part of North Star Housing Group, is working to deliver Wimax broadband to all residential and business premises in the Teesdale area through its ‘Digital Dale’ project.
The Digital Dale service installed by Networks by Wireless will be delivered via a number of transmitters across Teesdale and, unlike regular broadband services from traditional operators, Digital Dale subscribers will have guaranteed upload and download speeds at all times. The Wimax service is already live in parts of Teesdale and is scheduled to be fully operational across the whole area by April 2011.
Recent tests during the implementation have shown 10Mb download and 3Mb upload speeds from a location around eight miles from the nearest transmitter.
Keith Saunders, group ICT manager, North Star Housing Group, said, “We hope this new broadband service will help tenants who have previously been unable to receive any sort of broadband and enable them to get online.
“We are keen that they should be able to use the many services that Teesdale Housing provides, including online repairs reporting and rent statements, as well as the wider benefits of the internet.”
