A web site and forum dedicated to the use of geographic information and GIS within social housing has been set up. GI4Housing (www.gi4housing.com) aims to be a central, independent online information source and forum for the use of GIS in housing.
GI4Housing was set up by Justin Chamberlin, from Saxon Weald Housing Association, and Richard Tidy from MHS Homes, as a not-for-profit organisation managed and run by its members.
Justin Chamberlin said, “While there were pockets of people doing excellent things with GIS and working in housing, there was a lack of communication between those individuals and organisations, plus little continuity or best practice examples. The idea behind GI4Housing was to breakdown those barriers and provide a central forum and repository of information.”
