The entire fleet of over 150 vans and minibuses at Luminus Housing have been fitted with web-based satellite tracking to improve utilisation and security.
Since Luminus’ adoption of the Masternaut tracking service in January 2008, productivity has risen by 10 to 15 per cent and managers have better real-time and historic information about vehicle location, speed and utilisation, and improved data for job start-finish times. Operatives also benefit from greater lone-worker protection.
Masternaut was integrated with Luminus’ existing back-office systems and the PDA-based engineering management systems used by supervisors. Sharon Grant, procurement manager, Luminus Group, said, “We chose Masternaut because it provided a simple browser-based interface and provided a platform we could develop for future applications. By using any internet-linked PC or PDA, we can see exactly where our vehicles are at any time. This also allows us to direct additional staff who are nearby if a colleague needs back up. We have also used the system to dispute road traffic fines as we are able to prove that our vehicle was not in the area on the day that the fine was issued.”
